Nightmare City: Part One: A Steampunk-ish Lovecraftan Tale of Action and Horror

Zombies, zeppelins, mad scientists — oh my! Breathtaking adventure by New York Times bestselling author Jack Conner.

Young thief Katya Ivreski is in trouble. She’s just ripped off the wrong guy, a sadistic murderer addicted to alchemical drugs. If he catches her, death will be a mercy. She’s been living on the streets since she was a teen, surviving by her wits and daring, and only stealing from bad guys. Now her life could be cut short just when she’s about to make good. Her only hope is the powerful mob boss Ravic. In a city filled with mad scientists, zombies and sinister cults, he is feared far and wide.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Ravic is embroiled in a vicious gang war with an even more terrifying and mysterious figure known as Loqrin, who may be responsible for the wave of murders that has gripped the city for the last several months. Carried out by nightmarish creatures, dozens of people have been killed in gruesome ways, and that may just be the start. Soon the whole world could fall under Loqrin’s evil shadow . . . and possibly the shadow of an even more terrible power.

Katya is the world’s only hope. Ravic will offer her protection, but only if she agrees to find out what Loqrin is up to and stop him, by any means necessary. No pressure, Kat.

Having read a couple of the Atomic Sea novels i grabbed this when it was free as its set in the same world. Intially, and i dont know why, the cover put me off but ive just finished it and its an excellent read. Fast paced with a likeable female lead character and a dark story. i finished this in one sitting and cant wait to read the next part.

An excellent read with some wonderful characters – villains are villainous, heroines are heroic, but everything is shades of grey with sufficient flaws to add depth and keep them interesting.

The story is really well paced and the action draws you in – be warned this is a real page turner!
