This is a fun original re-creation to describe for you. Originally this was a vintage M-S-A Custom Comfo respirator in great condition. We took it through a process of refurbishing and upcycling to offer this outstanding Steampunk mask. First, we separated all the parts and completely cleaned and conditioned the rubber – which was already in nearly perfect condition, but now it's as close to perfect as we can get it. Next, we opened up two vintage, unused filter cartridges and removed the exterior labeling and filter media. Now the mask breathes very easily but offers no filtration or respiration function – it is a mask only. No respiration filtration provided!! The cartridges were embellished with a variety of vintage parts as well as new brass hardware discolored to give a vintage tarnished appearance. We also carefully heated the metal of the cartridges to darken and slightly discolor them. There's no rust there, it's only an artistic effect. A touch of brass here… an antique brass clockwork frame and odd hardware there…a clever glass vial of mixed oils and green coloring and you have it! This respirator has adjustable elastic straps, but was originally intended as a size "large". Seems to work equally well for a medium as well, although small heads may need to trim and adjust the elastic straps. Fairly easy to do, because the strap easily snap off the mask with metal snaps – the snaps have been "aged" by us to give them an rough aged appearance. The entire mask has been carefully detailed to present the appearance of age and wear, but the materials are actually in excellent vintage or new condition. All materials have been screwed into place or bolted with hardware so that the mask is very sturdily assembled. Only one of these custom respirator masks available. Enjoy!
