Steampunk octopus in chariot made out of wood, tentacles, Victorian vehicle with sea creature octopod wearing goggles and brandishing trident! Old science fiction steampunk machine looks copper. Glowing red eyes and detailed controls.
This large model / sculpture is one of my latest creations as of now and one of my premiere items. Detailed in the exteme with a lovely and flowing architecture, here you have an undersea, Steampunk Octopus Warrior or Hunter riding in his chariot. The chariot is a marvel of gear head technology, made to look like it's mainly copper with brass railings. On the front is a powerful yellow searchlight with a series of breaking thruster outlets — you see on the back two powerful underwater turbine jets and underneath are a few "hover" jets for stabilization (as well as a pair of torpedoes!). The octopus is using some of his eight, suckered tentacles for standing while others hold the railings, work the controls or brandish his silvery blue trident. Speaking of controls, the pedestal based panel has a a myriad of minute and large levers, knobs, and multi color crystal control buttons. Coming from the chariot's floor itself are two old fashioned control levers with hand brakes. He's even decked out in some unusual garb about his midriff, is wearing a set of goggles with practically glowing infrared red lenses! I gave him a beak mouth underneath and he's colored in a sort of antiqued green gold color with pinkish metallic undersides. Silver highlights can be found on both machine and rider.
I painstakingly create and make each item, surprisingly nearly all out of wood (like 99% to 100%!), in this case right down to his tentacles, chariot railings and supremely miniaturized and detailed controls! Mainly metallic finishes set them apart. I try to make each piece have the look and feel in your hands of an old world antique, Victorian automaton or classic Santa toy! I do hope you enjoy them. This creation is about 9 1/2 high in total (from lowest point on vehicle to top of trident) by 10 1/2" long (end to end of the vehicle) and about 6" at its widest. Some other measurements: octopus himself is about 5" high to the top of his head and the trident is just over 4" long (remember there are 2.5 centimeters to an inch).
It works wonderfully as a table top sculpture but I might be able to rig it for hanging.
As listed on this item page this piece is made to order because of it's complexity and the time it takes. I will try to honor special requests but the time to completion is somewhat variable, working within my other customer projects. I would like to have a few weeks to finish in general.
