This is the Floating Spindle #2, one of several spindles I have made in this motif. These spindles are intended to hang from a strand of monofiliment in a window. They are for interior display only: they would rapidly deteriorate if left exposed to the elements.
It is fabricated in ebonized maple with some burl wood for the central disc, with a machined hollow copper accent at the neck. The central burl disc is roughly 7" in diameter, and the overall height is at 16".
All the wood parts are fabricated by hand upon a wood lathe, whilst the copper neck is machined upon a custom fabricated fixture for the milling machine.
TAKE NOTICE: If a commission is placed for a Floating Spindle, you will receive a piece similar to the one in the above photos: it will not be exactly the same. As all my pieces are hand-made, the final products end up slightly different from piece to piece. Variations also occur as I am implementing wood burl, a natural product with its own unique character.
This is not found object or assemblage sculpture: every single part is made within my shop.
