Introducing the Astral Chrysalis Designs reprise of the classic Pork Pie Hat. Originally worn by British and American Women, circa 1830-1865. Later in the 1920's the Pork Pie became a popular men's hat and was famously worn by the silent film actor Buster Keaton. Its fame spread and its hey day was in the 1930's-1940's during the Great Depression.
Why the history lesson…cause we're nerdy milliners who find these tidbits fascinating. We've always been hat lovers and we're bound and determined to spend this lifetime recreating every classic hat style that exists (as well as creating some new ones!) with our own original patterns and our unique stylist magic.
We've named our version the Keaton in honor of Buster Keaton's obsession with the Pork Pie. Did you know he made every single Pork Pie he wore in his films? He converted fedoras and other hats into Pork Pies making thousands of hats in his lifetime. Was he a silent actor or a milliner at heart?
This sharp hat has filigree detail in the front, green stitching and art engraved on the top. The Keaton has an adjustable wire brim which is the feature ALL our customers rave about. Stylize your brim to fit your mood!
