The Inverness/Ulster coat/Over coat is best known with the character 'Sherlock Holmes' and was popular in late Victorian times to give extra warmth over a jacket.
It has an added over cape, leaving the arm holes open for the wearer to pop his arms through. Five self covered 5 buttons to front.
Soft Tailored and fully lined through out and hand finished.
Top button is meant to be open at neck, the wearer is supposed to show the tie and jacket underneath.
As a guide, the coat/over coat in the picture measures 46 inches long at the rear from the top of the collar while the cape was 24 inches at the front from the shoulder.
Technical Fabric Stuff:
This stock listing is for an Inverness Coat in a Wool feel fabric. The weight is medium weight and 375gr/msq. Lovely medium weight for this style.
80%polyester/18%viscose/2%elastane.
100% polyester linings of Bright Red and Black.
Specialist Dry Clean Only.
Each coat is bespoke to each customer so the addition of internal pockets, extra length due to height, sleeves, change of collar style, buttons etc can be added, but will incur extra cost and needs to be confirmed before your order is placed.
I do take commissions for heavier weight fabrics in wool and wool blends, change of linings and plus sizes ( size over 53''). The price will be reflective of the time, research and fabric costs involved.
Express orders for dispatching within two weeks of being ordered, will incur an extra 50% on top of order cost, NOT including postage.
Normal dispatch time is 3-5 weeks as these are bespoke items.
