The fan lacing corset was designed during the Edwardian era to enable a lady to tighten her corset easily herself without need of a maid. Combined with a front fastening busk, one simply pulls on an ingenious tape and pully device at the side waist, and as the crossover ribbons pull into a fan shape, so the waist magically tightens up!
