For this Steampunk Pin, I used a fantastic, solid American brass, winged, Egyptian Scarab Beetle as the base for a fine, vintage, Swiss watch movement. The Scarab Beetle is the "Egyptian symbol for rebirth, the ability to be reborn." In the form used in this golden brass scarab, the raised ball, where I have placed a vintage watch gear, "was identified with the sun and the beetle with the god Khepri who pushed the ball of the sun across the sky", thus having to do with the sun rising and setting.
