This piece was designed for the celebration of everything steampunk.
A friend from work told me before Christmas that his wife wanted a print of one of my older pieces, “Rain to Rust” from 2012. That prompted me to redraw the piece so his wife had a choice between the old piece, this one, or keeping both.
I had intended on revisiting this concept anyway because I feel like it was the strongest piece I’d from 2012. 17-year-old me had a good sense of character design and atmosphere, but lacked proper execution and discipline. It was really fun to fully realize this piece now; not only have I learned a lot within the past six years, but this is also the best way to start the new year.
Besides, this piece features one of my most iconic mechanical creations, Kanary the robotic…canary.
