New from Bad Dog Designs for 2015 – the amazing Edison Steampunk Nixie Clock.
This is one of my ‘Showcase’ clocks and has been in the making for many months, but finally finished. The clock is made from an original 1952 Edison Oscilloscope, no attempt has been made to hide this, in fact I have preserved as much of the original character of the piece of equipment as possible. The burnished finish to the front is all original, as is the faded paint and all the controls and connectors on the rear. It is a really neat clock and the only one in the world 🙂
As with all my clocks, it is made to very high standards and with a lot of care and attention to detail, I am particularly happy with this one.
Originally the Oscilloscope measured over 2ft in depth and would never have sat on a shelf, so it has been machined to fit into a sensible space, and I fitted a plasma sphere in place of the CRT – well it is steampunk after all! The dial on the clock is illuminated and the needle pulses once a second, the switches on the front turn the clock on and off, and the sphere. The nixies (back lit) indicate the time and date, with the bottom two displaying seconds.
The clock measures 44cm wide, 13cm tall and 13cm deep and is all aluminium.
A very individual clock and a complete one off.
Supplied with the clock will be a collection of images displaying the build process from the original piece of equipment through to the finished clock.
