Minute gears swirl mesmerisingly atop a beautifully preserved pocket watch movement. The gear's circular forms and toothed edges impart a flower-like appearance to them –
especially when combined with the highly detailed, iridescent winged bees flanking the assemblage. The overall effect gives this wrist cuff a 'nature-meets-industrial' aspect.It all begins with an antique silver toned wrist cuff to which a large gear and an Elgin pocket watch movement – circa 1923 – are attached. The movement features gorgeous subtle guilloche engraving that is revealed when the piece moves in the light. It's surface is further enhanced with swirls of applied gears, rubies, crystals – one clear and one amber – and a mossy-toned vintage cabochon in the centre. Flanking this centrepiece are filigrees embellished with layered gears and two bumble bees. The silver plated bees are hand-glazed in green with additional iridescent glaze lightly brushed over their wings. At the back ends of the cuff band are two more filigrees. These filigrees, along with the ones under the bees, and the large gear beneath the watch movement, have all been given a lightly applied verdigris patina to impart an overall sense of age to this stunning cuff.
This cuff fits most women – and some men as well if their wrists are on the smaller side. The interior circumference of the cuff measures 6 1/2" as shown partially open in these photos. It will close to fit a 6" wrist. However, one should bend ONLY the portions of the band at the star-shape
d cutouts to adjust this cuff. NEVER should the entire band be bent anywhere else along its length as this will cause damage to this piece. The items attached to the band are not soldered to it, they are affixed using industrial strength jeweller's adhesive. Bending the band where they are attached will cause them to break away from the band surface.
