Richly colourful and sparkling with crystals, this steampunk necklace features a gorgeous cicada as its centrepiece – a symbol of rebirth.
It begins with an oval filigree which is lightly glazed in black. Atop it is affixed two large decorative contemporary gears – one bright brass and the other dark bronze – along with a starburst gear at the top. Embellishing these gears are an assortment of layered vintage watch movement gears – three arranged individually in a complex star pattern. Two of the gears sport watch movement rubies and the three uppermost are accented with sparkling amber Swarovski crystals.
The major element of this piece is a highly detailed cicada. It is painstakingly hand glazed in a blending of deep sapphire and aqua, resulting in a rich teal colour that highlights it's body detailing. The wings are lightly brushed with two glazes – the first in aqua and the uppermost an iridescent one with tiny glimmering bits that reflect the light in a rainbow of hues.
The pendant measures 2 3/4" in length x 1 5/8" in width. It is equipped with an 18" chain with two 1" extensions enabling it to also be worn at 19" and 20" lengths.
