The Barometric Prognosticator III is a self illuminating weather machine that displays a weather forecast using flickering lamps on the clock face. It is reminiscent of Victorian engineering, where beautifully intricate working mechanisms are proudly displayed on polished wood. I love this type of machine as you can see it working and in this case it can also be heard!

The brass Preference Valve allows you to select the readings you want to view and whether you require an hourly musical rendition of historical data. If selected, the musical rendition provides an audible indication of weather changes to better help you derive your own weather prediction. It is played on a flute powered by bellows, the pitch being controlled by a scotch yoke mechanism and a chiming bell – no simulated sounds here! Adhering firmly to steampunk ideology, every part of the Barometric Prognosticator III performs a function vital to the mechanical communication of the weather readings. Most of the components have been designed and fabricated especially for this machine. It is mounted on a beautiful polished wooden plaque and each machine is individually numbered. To prevent undesired mechanical operation, illumination and musical renditions, the Barometric Prognosticator III automatically disengages these functions when you are not present for more than an hour.

• If requested, I will send you daily progress photos so you can follow your Prognosticator's manufacture.
• Temperature, humidity and barometric pressure are read by a wireless sensor which is placed outside.
• A computer inside the unit records the data and operates the moving parts of the mechanism.
• Despite looking like it uses steam or compressed air, the Barometric Prognosticator 3 runs off a plug in mains adapter.
• It is wall mounted, having two metal keyhole hangers on the back.
• The mechanisms employ laser cut gears, individually turned brass components and 8 ball bearings to ensure reliable working.
• Each machine is individually numbered.
• Engraved labels and other elements can be further personalised if required.
• The clock is radio controlled so never needs adjusting.
• It is 46cm high by 50cm wide by 14cm deep, although the lamp extends to a distance of 32cm.

Having designed a couple of custom steampunk machines, I came up with the idea for the Barometric Prognosticator 3 in response to requests for a cheaper machine. I have put a lot of time in developing a design I can reliably reproduce to order in as short an amount of time as possible.
