I took a punt on this because of the price and, oh my goodness, I’m really so glad I did. Lindsay Buroker creates a fabulous world with heroes who need to use their courage, strength and intelligence to survive – although their plans usually end with unanticipated and explosive mayhem. I love the creation of strong and well-rounded characters and the relationships developing in the team. I’ve now bought all the Emperor’s Edge books and will be reading more from this author. If you like strong and well-developed characters, a touch of humour and a terrific team built out of disparate characters (I particularly loved Basillard), a touch of magic and battling against the odds, you will love these books.

“Lindsay Buroker is awesome,” I was told, and then I spotted three of her books in a box set for next to nothing. So this sat on my Kindle for a while, lonely and ignored, until it came to the top of my TBR list…that was about a fortnight ago.
Why’d it take me so long to write a review? Um…because there are 8 books in the series, plus some incidental novellas and short stories, and

all the books are a decent length and…all right, Lindsay Buroker IS a legend and I’ve been binge reading the whole series because of this box set.
It started out like something from one of the late Terry Pratchett’s novels…a female police-officer-equivalent making excuses for a less-than-conscientious co-worker…then stumbling on a crime with far-reaching consequences for herself and her nation. Amaranthe is unique, from her OCD tendencies to her irresistible silver tongue, so that despite her talent for causing explosions, she manages to charm the most hostile individuals.
Then there’s Sicarius…assassin, target and with significant similarities to a st

Yes, there’s a cast of other, very strange characters and I admit to w

I loved this collection of books. I found it by fluke, although I love fantasy books with a bit of romance. I just couldn’t put it down. What a story, what characters. The pace is fabulous and moves along with such humour. I loved all of the characters, particularly Sicarious, Amaranthe and The boys. It is a quite amazing tale which is very exciting I lost lots of sleep reading it very quickly. It makes you feel positive as you read it, sort of good versus evil and the rehabilitation of people too. I am now on the fifth book and they are just as good. I am sure that I will read everything Lindsay has written.
