DESCRIPTION.
Capturing Victorian elegance but with the simplicity and comfort of modern fitting in mind, Ventriloquist Court's woodland dress fuses steampunk with rustic appeal. The photographs simply do not do justice.
The dress fabric is an A-grade Australian-made cotton spandex. The high-neck Victorian collar and dress hem is made from cruelty-free wild silk foraged and woven by Indian tribal communities. The silk has a rustic texture and the colour is a beautiful variegated shadings of brown, gold, and beige, complementing the tea-dyed dress fabric. This wild silk is spun and handwoven from silk yarn extracted from cocoons left behind in the wild by silkworms in their natural lifecycle transformation into moths and departure from their cocoons. The silk weave is imperfect, but this is characteristic of handwoven wild silk and its quirks add value to its uniqueness.
The neck collar is finished with narrow hemming and is embellished with beautiful English-made laces: cotton leavers lace in ecru and champagne. The collar is adjustable and ties with laces, and the dress hem splits at the side. The puffy shoulder long sleeves are made from see-through organic cotton crepe; its stretchiness and lightweight add comfort. The dress also features bustles along the hem and to one side, creating an asymmetrical hem, and also comes with a handmade belt featuring a brass pendant (USA made) and strands of Vintage glass beads made in Japan.
Whisk yourself away to an evening ballroom or bask in the gentle sunlight among grassy fields and English gardens – perfect for romantic weddings and elegant occasions… Or, wear the dress with a Victorian underbust corset for period-inspired, eco steampunk, and rustic dress-up!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Tea-dyed dress fabric. I use a potassium alum mordant to help fix the tea-dyed colour. However, tea-dyed fabric may still fade a little over time. To protect the colour, hand wash the dress in cold water using light-coloured mild organic soaps (recommended: white castile soap), and line dry in partial shade away from the full sun. Note: If your water supply is hard water, it is recommended that you wash and rinse the dress instead in demineralised water (often available for purchase in supermarkets in the laundry section). The other alternative of softening hard water by adding washing soda would not be suitable, as washing soda may damage the silk fabric.
Other dress fabric colours: Washing instructions are the same as above. However, the dress can be dried outside in the sun.
Use a lot-heat/ warm iron only. It is best to iron the wild silk collar and silk dress hem when thoroughly damp. Note that ironing dry silk can damage the fabric.
The brass filigree used to make your belt is finished with a professional lead-free oxidation process. The brass manufacturer recommends the following cleaning instructions: use a damp cloth only (no jewellery detergents, special cleaning cloths etc, as these will damage the surface of the brass).
POSTAGE COSTS
The postage costs for the dress are $35 AUD for international customers and $19 AUD for Australian customers. Your dress will be sent via express post with tracking and signature confirmation, unless otherwise requested. This is a shipping upgrade at no additional cost to buyers.
Purchases of 2 or more items receive a postage discount, which is automatically calculated upon adding items to cart. Please rest assured that any overpaid postage will be refunded, once I post your package and receive confirmation of the exact postage costs. If I undercharge, however, I will pay the additional postage fees at my own expense.
