Wolves and Daggers: A Steampunk Fairy Tale (Steampunk Red Riding Hood Book 1)

Who’s afraid of the big, bad werewolf?

When London’s brightest tinkers and alchemists come up missing, Red Cape Society Agent Clemeny Louvel is on the case.

To help Clemeny get the problem in hand, Queen Victoria assigns her a temporary partner–a werewolf with a knightly history and a tendency to be far too flirtatious for either of their good. Can she trust him to help her chase down the monsters they’re hunting?

It’s Penny Dreadful meets Supernatural in this exciting new gaslamp urban fantasy. Wolves and Daggers retells the classic Red Riding Hood fairy tale with hefty doses of badassery and steampunk.

See how New York Times bestselling author Melanie Karsak puts her unique spin on this timeless tale, blending it into her richly-built and award-winning steampunk universe.

I really enjoyed this story, which is the first of a series of stories about these characters, and they’re all collectively a steampunk retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. It’s VERY different to the original, but I liked it a lot because of that – this is one kickass Little Red, instead of the sappy girl in the original. I appreciated the fact that this had been improved on and expanded slightly (and the editing issues sorted!) since it was first published in the Heroines and Hellions boxset – while the basic story is still the same, it was still fun to reread as it was different enough to make it like a new story. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series, which includes new stories, and would definitely recommend it to all adult fairytale lovers, or those who love their supernatural and paranormal stories with a “happy ever after” ending.
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
