World War 2 British Military RAF – Helio 5" MKV Gas Mask Case – Stamped Air Ministry by CameraEmporium
An intriguing case that came with a box camera. This case we felt wasn't original with the camera but much older. Our hunch was proven right when we looked into the markings on the side. "Helio 5" MkV AM" Helio seemed to make quite a number of quality leather cases during WW2 for important equipment such as gas masks and instruments. We believe that this case may have been made for the Air Ministry or the RAF because of the AM stamp (see photo).
This is made completely out of real leather which was probably once a tanned colour but has since gained a deep chocolate colour due to age.
The case measures 14cm wide, 14.5cm high and 9cm deep. The lid is slightly larger and the whole case is made from real leather and is in good condition for it's age. The lid is held in place by a buckle and two straps which hold the lid securely down. 5 small holes are punched into one side of the case but these look original to us so we are not accounting for this in the state of the case.
There are however a number of light marks on the leather but all stitching and straps are completely original and in tact with still lots of life left in them.
Ideal for a steam punk enthusiast, military collector or World War 2 enthusiast.
