XL Plague Doctor Hat in Black Leather by TomBanwell

This is a classical plague doctor's hat, modeled after the engraving by Paul Fürst done in 1656. It is part of the historical plague doctor's costume, and is designed to accompany our various plague doctor masks, which we have listed for sale separately. It comes in two sizes. The Regular size should fit most adults. We've made it rather large as it is to be worn over a mask, a balaclava or hood, and perhaps a cowl. Inside circumference of crown measures 25½ (reg size hat is 24"). If your head circumference is larger than about 23 ½" we offer the hat in XL size for an additional $20.
The hat is made from full grain vegetable tanned cowhide. There is a spring steel wire sewn into the edge of the brim to help hold its shape. The crown has been wet-formed over a custom built hat block, and flares out at the top. It has been coated with a stiffener to keep its shape. The hat comes with a soft leather sweatband and on the inside top is a portrayal of the Fürst engraving. It is painted black with flexible acrylic latex paint. The hat comes with a removable, adjustable chin strap.
