Bustle for Steampunk Costume Repurposed Neckties by Crystalsidyll

I hate waste, so when I find a beautiful old neckties, with a bit of damage I pick it up to use the gorgeous silks and other fabrics. 7 neckties went into making this bustle, perfect for a steampunk costume, all in shades of red and burgundy with black and cream and dashes of other colors.
I designed this from first sketches through construction-a Crystal's Idyll original, not available anywhere else. The base fabric is a red suedecloth. 4 wires in interior casings provide volume, projecting the ties in traditional bustle shape. I individually stiffened each tie before sewing on to provide more oomph. Two twill tapes on the underside keep the curves in shape and rest against the wearers rear. It ties around the waist with a black twill tape band.
This bustle is 9 inches tall, 13 inches if you include the dangling tie points. It measures 14" wide at the widest and projects 7" out in the curve. The ties are approximately 72" in total.
Wear it over a steampunk skirt or a pair of jeans for a major statement.
