   I’m still new to steampunk, so I was a little unsure of what to expect, but I was expecting a lot more reference to the genre in the form of weird inventions/gadgets from the title of this book. I was expecting the fantasy genre to appear as well and I didn’t really see that. The description of clothing did fit into the steampunk genre and I did like this. Also falling into the erotic genre I was hoping for lot more than I got. There’s only two sex scenes both rushed and not well written. I get that the way they were written was done to fit in with the Victorian setting of the story, but it just wasn’t enough for me. The plot was good and did keep me interested in reading on. However, in some places I would have liked more detail, build up and tension. The characters are perhaps too many for a short novella, but being the first of a series, one would hope that some of these characters would get more development later on. The main characters are okay, but I would have liked a little more about their backgrounds too. Saying that though the twist at the end
   is good and does work. The writing style is pacey, simple and does allow your imagination to fill the gaps. Once again though for me I would have liked more description as still being new to the genre I couldn’t picture some of the steampunk gadgets being used. The dialogue of the characters works well and is realist. I did notice a few grammar mistakes and revisions that could have been done. Overall, I did like this novella and its actually the first thing I’ve read on my kindle fire hd. It does display really well. I’m currently in debate about buying the next one, (I got this one for free), but I might give it a shot and see if there are improvements to the areas this one fell short on.

   In essence an OK story with equally OK characters. The author has tried to write steam punk but failed to write much about mechanics leaving too much speculation on simple fundamentals which had they been explained in more detail would have made the story a little more interesting. Unfortunately the language is modern rather than of the era it is set in which makes it comical and very out of place. The lead characters are typical and cliche which makes them both predictable and annoying. The whole story reads more like a plan for a longer novel, but if this is the finished thing it needs to be edited, heavily, as there are many mistakes such as spellings and some details, in one of the sex scenes the main character Constance is wearing trousers only to suddenly be wearing a skirt a couple of paragraphs later! The era should have also been researched in more detail and the language refined to suit.

   On the plus side the story, although amazingly predictable, is readable. It is fast paced as we follow Constance and her view point, but the whole thing is marred by the lack of detail.

   A troupe of butt-kicking belles touring the world in a sky ship and carrying out missions for Queen Vic. An enjoyable short read.
