Jean-Paul GAULTIER 56 – 4174 Vintage Sunglasses New Unworn Deadstock
Made in Japan in the 1980s
Deadstock – New Old Stock – Never Worn
Legendary JPG model inspired by american Classic cars. The temple ends are designed to look like the sides of a Cadillac. Additional sun protection is provided by the sideshields on the side of the lenses. Typical for Gaultier: The lense fixation is mounted on the front instead of being hidden behind the temples. Beautiful details on nosebridge and temples. Real spring hinge mechanism: The springs ensure a tight fith and pivot to the inside when frame is folded.
Jean-Paul Gaultier was at the avant-garde of eyewear design in the 1980's. Although Japan was by far the most expensive place of production for eyewear frames at that time, Gaultier did not want to settle with anything less than the best craftsmanship for his sunglasses. Unlike most other designers, he did not license his brand to a big eyewear manufacturer but instead kept a minute supervision of the design and production of his sunglasses.
