The Josephine underskirt is the basis of your perfect Victorian inspired outfit whether you are gothic, neo-Victorian or steampunk and it is a flexible piece that can be worn on its own or teamed with different bustles. This is one item you simply have to have in your alternative wardrobe!
The skirt shape is based on the 1880s style, flat at the front with side pleating and gathering at the back which gives plenty of volume to flow into a small, elegant train along with room to wear a bustle pad too if desired. It is designed to be worn under one of our bustles and the photos show it with both the Grand and the Parlour bustle. Alternatively wear it without a bustle for a less fussy look – great with an underbust corset and high necked blouse. The skirt can be made in a wide range of colours to either match or contrast with the bustle. Please contact me if you have any special requests like adding a ruffle or lace trimming.
The fabric shown is polyester taffeta which is luxurious, but also easy to care for (just message me to enquire about silk or other authentic fabrics). Please be aware the pale colours in the white and ivory end of the colour chart can appear a little bit sheer in certain lights. I would recommend wearing a petticoat underneath. This will also give you a much more period correct silhouette. If you would like to order a lined version please see our listing for ‘Wedding Bustle Skirt Two Piece Set’
The skirt is made to order to the measurements you will be asked to send.
