Download the gears, needles, and connecting rods (as “Original Size”) that I used in creating the Steampunk Tile-able Background/Wallpaper/Desktop.
It appears as solid black in all sizes other than original because it’s saved as a transparent PNG.
Here’s the same steam punk gears and needles on white background if that’s more convenient for you.
Update:
After several requests I’ve written a tutorial on making the steam punk wallpaper, Make A Steampunk Gear Using Photoshop Patterns and Effects
Gear tooth forms incorrect?
Oh, true, Mike, these aren’t suited to CG animation where tooth slopes meshing exactly is critical. These are of the "looks right" variety.
I’d need to pull out my drafting T-square and sliderule to nail a true gear set.
Buz what you have here is excellent art, please do not get me wrong, and very useful for others to use. It’s just that having only recently got into ‘Steampunk’, and being something of a mad inventor (human cages, electric bikes, stainless steel jewellery) it’d be nice to see people attempt the odd involute gear.
Agreed, thought a few of these had a slight curve, guess not.
But straight edges (rationale) are more 1800’s/DIY/Jules Verne/barn-lathe variety, no? True, a super genius (Dr. Miguelito Lovelace, perhaps) would make ’em like that, but then again, he made a robot powered by a pipe organ, which I still can’t get to work correctly.
These are great! Just what I was looking for, thanks!!
Thanks. Just what I needed. Looking forward to your tutorial. I’ll send you a post of what I made.
Thanks,
Michelle
