Green and brown steampunk beaded mini top hat by Tehhonya

I really wanted to try making a hat with brown felt and fabric sides, rather then my usual black felt hats. I did have a couple of ideas for this hat when I started making it, but they just never happened. One day I was playing around with my thread twisting machine ( I'd just found it at the bottom of a drawer) and I decided to try twisting wire. It worked incredibly well as you can see. I then played around with the wire thread to see if I could thread beads on it. I don't know what I meant to do with it from there…. I wrapped it around my hat which was sitting on the table drying and waiting for inspiration to hit me, more to keep it out of the way then anything else. And then I just left it there. I really do like the effect, and the beads that are on the wire are really beautiful ones. There's some metal beads, a few crystal ones and a cloisonné one. Because of it's simplicity this hat could really go with anything, but it's easily dressed up. You could even add some of your own elements to it to truly personalise it. Just perfect for a steampunk style night on the town. The hat is held in your hair by a comb and ribbons. It stays in best when your hair is up. Your hat will arrive in it's own little hat box, so you have a nice place to keep it.
