Vintage Leather Bag/Gladstone Bag/Victorian Leather Bag by CoolVintageHomeStore
45.00 GBP
Sometimes called a Gladstone bag or Doctor’s bag (though I believe the true doctor’s bags were larger and more rectangular) these were very popular throughout the nineteenth century as an every day item for a professional gentleman. This has obviously seen some service in it’s time and no attempt has bee made to hide any blemishes. Having said that it is still a functioning item and something that could easily be used today.
The original leather handle shows signs of a split in the leather which is frayed slightly, and it has had a repair where it is attached to one of the metal rings (as can be seen in picture #2). The catch on top works perfectly which when pushed, together with pulling on the small leather tab on the side, opens to reveal a cloth lined interior that has two pockets.
The outer leather covering is in remarkably good shape despite some surface cracking and the stitching is all OK. On the underside there are four domed studs to protect the base of the bag.
